The Department of Veterans Affairs provides official estimates and projections of the Veteran population using the Veteran Population Projection Model (VetPop). Based on the available information through September 30, 2020, the latest model VetPop2020 projected a steady decrease in the Veteran population over the next 30 years. The “Percent Change in Veteran Population” data table shows the change in the Veteran population from 2000 to 2022 by state. During this period, the average decrease in the Veteran population is 30% at the state level.

VA Community Care Comparison or VAC3 (formerly Why Not the Best VA) is a system for comparing Veterans Health Administration (VHA) hospital system performance with regional and U.S. national benchmarks.  This report includes key quality measures available on CMS Hospital Compare and top hospital recognition programs from reporting agencies of hospital quality. VAC3 data tables are updated every quarter.

Strategic Analytics for Improvement and Learning Value Model or SAIL, is a system for summarizing hospital system performance within Veterans Health Administration (VHA). SAIL assesses key Quality measures in areas such as death rate, complications, and patient satisfaction, as well as overall efficiency at individual VA Medical Centers (VAMCs).

The Geographic Distribution of VA Expenditures (GDX) is an annual report that shows estimated VA expenditures for major programmatic areas by geographic area (state, county, and congressional district). The major programmatic areas are: Compensation and Pension; Readjustment (Education) and Vocational Rehabilitation; Insurance; Construction; and, Medical and Administrative.
